Chimney swifts are migratory birds that travel from Peru to many places in North America ( including Oregon) during the late summer. These birds often find residence in uncapped chimneys where they build their nests and hatch their young. These birds often make loud noises and create a nuisance for homeowners. The migratory bird treaty act legally prevents us from removing them or their nest while it is occupied. After they depart the nests they can be removed during a chimney cleaning, but this can all be prevented by installing a chimney cap prior to their entrance.
